Barge trip

Barge trip

During September we took a group of 8 students from year 10 on a residential barge trip as a reward for excellent behaviour, attendance and punctuality over the course of year 9. We set off from Snaygail Boatyard in Skipton and cruised up the Leeds Liverpool Canal to Gargrave Locks. The weather was beautiful and our students really embraced the challenge.

The boys learned to steer the barge, open swing bridges and locks. They were a fantastic team! The overnight stay saw them working out team puzzles and sitting on the bow, drinking hot chocolate and telling ghost stories!

In the log book one student recorded “we had a lot of fun and you could say it was a dream come true. We learned how to open the bridges with a special key called the ‘T’ key, only given to boat drivers. This trip is going to take a long time to get out of my head”, The trip was a big success!
