Moon Rocks

January 7, 2012 in Science

One small step for Man, one giant leap for Year 8

Year 8 pupils were extremely lucky to be able to see rocks brought back from the Moon by NASA and to touch and hold meteorites, rocks landed on Earth from Space. This was all thanks to Dr. Sohan, a space scientist, who came in to talk to Year 8 about how the Solar System was formed and about the history of space travel. After the talk, pupils were allowed to touch and hold the meteorites and get a closer look at the rock samples from the Moon.

No evidence of alien life here!

The pupils really enjoyed it and were excited to be able to touch the samples, bringing to life what they had learnt about in the Space topic they have recently studied.

Head Teacher Georgie Sale

Hello everyone, my name is Georgiana Sale and I am the new Headteacher of City of Leeds School.  I am thrilled to be taking over the leadership of this vibrant, happy, multicultural school which has won prestigious awards such as being the first secondary school in the UK to be awarded ‘School of Sanctuary’ status.

We are a mixed comprehensive school in Woodhouse.  The school is strongly multi-cultural and a variety of nationalities are represented amongst its pupils.  The present building was opened to pupils in 1992, although the City of Leeds School has existed on a different site for over 100 years.

We offer a good all-round education for your child, developing them as people and as citizens to take an active part in their own and their community’s lives.  Every child is known as an individual and we do our best to offer a curriculum that suits the needs of all our pupils.  We are a thoroughly inclusive school that provides equality of opportunity for all.  Students are encouraged to excel academically, physically, artistically, creatively and emotionally.

Staff help maintain a climate of care and commitment to one another, where individuals are valued, feel safe and have their achievements celebrated.  We pride ourselves on supporting students with special needs or talents, and provide mentoring, counselling and guidance for students and families in order to remove barriers to success.

Come and meet us!  No matter what you have read in the newspapers in the past, City of Leeds School is open for business and offering care and individual development for the children of Leeds.

This term Y8 having been learning about animation in ICT lessons. They have learnt about the different types of animation techniques and they have done a practical stop frame animation project. As well as using technical processes they have had to be patient, organised and creative.
